Daisy Meadow Viscose Dress Fabric

Coral, yellow and cream daisies scattered across dark grounds, offered in a navy blue and a black base. The flowers are drawn in a slightly naive, hand-painted style that keeps it from feeling mass-produced.

The cloth is a drapey viscose, 60 inches (152cm) across, cool to wear and light enough for layering. It sews best with a fine needle and a little patience at the cutting table, and the results are worth it on flowing shapes.

What to make with it: Good for tiered dresses, palazzo trousers, blouses, jumpsuits and gathered skirts.

Because viscose is a regenerated cellulose fibre it breathes like cotton while draping like silk, which is an unusual combination at this price. It is the reason so many summer dress patterns specify viscose, rayon or challis on the back of the envelope.

A pre-wash before cutting allows for any first-wash shrinkage and is worth doing on every dressmaking project. Sold by the metre and cut continuously. Order a 6x6 inch sample first if you would rather see the colour in person before buying a full length.
