Teal Damask Viscose Dress Fabric

A large teal damask and acanthus-leaf motif on a cream ground, printed with soft, slightly distressed edges so it reads as an aged tapestry rather than a crisp modern print. The scale is generous.

Printed on soft viscose at 60 inches (roughly 152cm) wide, it has a fluid, weighty fall and a smooth finish. A walking foot or a fine ballpoint needle helps if you are new to sewing with viscose, as the cloth likes to shift under the presser foot.

What to make with it: Good for kimono jackets, wide trousers, kaftans, cushion covers and statement dresses.

Viscose rewards a slightly more careful approach than cotton and gives you a much softer finished garment in return. Sharp scissors or a rotary cutter, a fine needle and a lighter hand on the iron are all it really asks for.

A pre-wash before cutting allows for any first-wash shrinkage and is worth doing on every dressmaking project. Sold by the metre and cut continuously. Order a 6x6 inch sample first if you would rather see the colour in person before buying a full length.
