Watercolour Posy Viscose

Small posies in lilac, soft blue, blush and ochre gold, scattered over a pale cream ground that has been washed through with faint blue and gold. Everything about it is soft. No hard outlines anywhere, and the colours bleed into each other the way they do on wet paper.

There are two layers to it. The posies in front are drawn clearly, and behind them sit ghosted flowers faded back into the ground, barely there. It gives the cloth real depth, and it is the reason it looks painted rather than printed.

This is the palest and quietest print in the range. If the bolder ones are too much, this is the other end of it.

One honest note on the weight. Pale viscose is not fully opaque. For a skirt, a dress or anything fitted, line it or wear a slip. For a blouse, a kimono or anything layered over something else, it is fine as it is.

This is a viscose, so it is cool against the skin, soft to handle, and it drapes close to the body rather than standing away from it. It gathers without bulking at the seams.

60 inches wide, sold in metres and cut as one continuous length. Order three metres and it arrives as a single three metre piece, not three separate cuts.

What to make with it: Blouses, summer and occasion dresses, tiered and gathered skirts, kimono jackets, kameez, dupattas and scarves, bridesmaid and wedding guest wear.

Before you cut: Pre-wash, because viscose shrinks on its first wash and you want that happening before the pieces are cut. Wash cool, hang to dry, and expect it back slightly narrower. The posies sit at mixed angles with no strict direction, but lay a piece out and check before you commit. Cut single layer with pattern weights or plenty of pins. The cut edges fray, so overlock or zigzag your seam allowances early, and use a fine needle.

Care: Machine wash cool on a delicate cycle, hang to dry, never tumble dry and never wring it. Press on a medium heat while slightly damp. Wash separately the first time, since pale cloth picks up colour from darks.
