Black & Silver Jacquard Brocade Fabric

A woven floral damask in black and silver-grey, where the motif reads as a metallic sheen across a matt ground. The most formal colourway in the twelve.

A true woven jacquard brocade at 60 inches (152cm) wide. The raised motif gives the surface depth that no print can match, and the firm handle means it supports a collar, a waistband or a fitted bodice on its own.

What to make with it: Made for evening wear, dinner jackets, waistcoats, occasion dresses and formal Asian suits.

Jacquard carries its own structure, which changes how you sew it. You can often skip the interfacing you would need on a lighter cloth, and seams press flat and stay flat. It is the reason waistcoats, structured bodices and tailored jackets are so much easier in this fabric than in a printed cotton.

A pre-wash before cutting allows for any first-wash shrinkage and is worth doing on every dressmaking project. Sold by the metre and cut continuously. Order a 6x6 inch sample first if you would rather see the colour in person before buying a full length.
