Desert Bloom Floral Twill
White blooms and trailing leaves scattered over a warm camel ground, with deep violet centres and a field of small olive dots filling the space between them. The dots are what make it. Without them the print would read as a plain ditsy floral, and with them it has a seventies feel that keeps coming back into fashion.
Three colours only, which keeps it calm. Easy to pair with plain camel, cream or violet.
This is a soft twill rather than a flat weave, so it has a fine diagonal rib running through it and a matte finish with no shine. It is lighter than our crepes and much more fluid, falling close to the body rather than holding a shape.
60 inches wide, sold in metres and cut as one continuous length. Order three metres and it arrives as a single three metre piece, not three separate cuts.
What to make with it: Blouses and shirts, summer and transitional dresses, wide leg trousers, kameez and shalwar, skirts cut to hang, kimono jackets, scarves.
Before you cut: Pre-wash, because viscose shrinks and you want that happening before the pieces are cut. Cut single layer, since twill shifts under the presser foot more than a flat weave does. The cut edges fray readily, so overlock or zigzag your seam allowances before you do anything else. A fine needle and an ordinary stitch length are fine.
