Crimson Rose Viscose

Deep crimson roses with dark forest green foliage, set at regular intervals across a pale stone ground. The roses are drawn boldly with clean edges rather than softened into the background, so the print reads clearly from across a room instead of blurring into texture.

The ground has a soft lustre to it, washed and lightly mottled rather than a flat colour, which keeps the pale areas from looking empty where the flowers are spaced apart.

Three colours, strongly contrasted. Red, dark green, pale stone. It is the simplest print in the range and the one that carries furthest.

Right for the season without being novelty. Deep red and dark green read as winter, so it suits December sewing and occasion wear, but there is nothing festive in the drawing itself and it will not look out of place in March.

This is a viscose, so it is cool against the skin, soft to handle, and it drapes close to the body rather than standing away from it. It gathers without bulking at the seams.

60 inches wide, sold in metres and cut as one continuous length. Order three metres and it arrives as a single three metre piece, not three separate cuts.

What to make with it: Maxi and midi dresses, abayas, kameez and shalwar, blouses, gathered skirts, wide leg trousers, kimono jackets, dupattas.

Before you cut: The roses sit on stems with the leaves running a consistent way, so check the direction on your piece and cut every pattern piece facing the same way. An upside down rose is obvious once the garment is made. Pre-wash first, because viscose shrinks on its first wash and you want that happening before the pieces are cut. Wash cool, hang to dry, and expect it back slightly narrower. Cut single layer with pattern weights or plenty of pins. The cut edges fray, so overlock or zigzag your seam allowances early, and use a fine needle.

Care: Machine wash cool on a delicate cycle, hang to dry, never tumble dry and never wring it. Press on a medium heat while slightly damp.
